How We Test Broadheads

Broadhead marketing is louder than any other archery category. Our protocol cuts through it.

The protocol

  1. Flight: 3-shot groups at 30 and 50 yards versus field points of identical weight, from a tuned bow.
  2. Sharpness: out-of-box edge testing, plus re-sharpened edge retention after media passes.
  3. Penetration: layered media (foam + ballistic gel + plywood) with a chronographed arrow for comparable energy.
  4. Durability: repeated impacts and bone-simulant strikes — bent ferrules and broken blades get documented, not excused.

What we score

Flight accuracy, penetration, durability, sharpness and value. See the full rubric in our Review Methodology.
